Who is doing this research?
Marga grew up in Mallorca (Spain) and began riding at the age of 6, eventually graduating from ponies to a wonderful PRE gelding called Flamenco who had the patient of a saint and a heart of gold. Marga went on to graduate as a vet from the University of Barcelona (Spain) and spent nearly a decade in equine practice, developing a focus in the role of nutrition in optimising health in horses across all life stages. Following this professional interest, she made a move to the equine nutrition industry and is now Head of Veterinary, Equine Health & Performance at Dodson & Horrell, providing case-specific advice and elaborating feeding plans for clinical, stud and performance nutrition.Through this role, she has met many Iberian horses struggling with health issues that either might be caused by or could be solved through nutrition and diet. Having joined forces with the wonderful Dr Katie Williams who is also passionate about the subject of Iberian Horse health and nutrition, the idea of a research project was born and subsequently awarded a PhD programme at the University of Córdoba (Spain) under the supervision of Dr Williams, Dr David Argüelles Capilla and Dr Elisa Díez de Castro.Dr Marga Mas DVM PGDip PGCert CertAVP MBA ENFAR MRCVS

Our
Values
Science
This site is born out of an idea to develop a platform owners and breeders of Iberian horses from all over the world can access up-to-date, breed-specific information and advice on equine health & nutrution. A platform which not only enables research, but brings it closer to everyone.Innovation
Purebred Spanish and Lusitano horses are heritage breeds, rooted in tradition and history. Yet, perhaps it is time we challenge certain set beliefs and practices based on what science shows us is best when it comes to feeding and managing our horses for their long-term health.Practicality
Nutritional advice is only ever valid if it can be translated into what ends up in the horse's digestive system. Our goal is to understand what dietary elements and nutritional interventions work best for Iberian horses, and how to make them happen in every situation.Evolution
We are all learning, every day. The research we are conducting at present will help us better understand how and why Purebred Spanish and Lusitano horses are fed and kept across a myriad places all over the world - helping shape the future of breed-specific advice.
